[COMIC] Aesop for Digital Age, 2022.
These comics were among the first I made for a series of eight short Aesop-themed tales—the project terminated after the first few because I felt the stories were too simplistic, but looking back they are not so bad—the premise of an unfinished fourth story features an incognito cat-detective ‘investigating’ scandalous cat-videos (of the boxed or party-hatted variety) whose femme fatale is an old catlady lol.
The original series is filled with colorful and bold ideas, the sort of zany, cautionary tales an angry old Aesop might tell, mixing pop-culture with biting irony to heed us from our digital woes of Nigerian princes and tentacle-monsters, cruel selfie-queens, robot-armies, pirated islands and the inscrutable dark scrolls of Terms and Conditions which insidiously bind the fates of all men.
- comic title: “The Elephant and the Weasel”
- pages: 12, full-color.
- Artist: AdiFitri Ahmed
The artist Adi did a great job on this one. Check out his graphic work Tanggang based on Malaysian folklore here. Any illustrators who might want to revive this, I can write sharp little stories in the spirit of the original if you think you got the style and interest to match!
