[trophies] top-shelf jams.
When it comes to taste, it is inevitable that we begin not by listening for ourselves but through the ears of others. How unfortunate, then, that works of uncommon beauty should oftentimes fall short before common ears, or through the cracks of time. We present some of our favorite jams. We've spent a lot of time with octogenarians, including few that taught or studied music intensively, so are confident our tastes are at least tolerable. Enjoy these glassed beauties with a light toast or tea before they are nommed into oblivion by that oldest curmudgeon, Father Time.
Well-established classics besides - from Vivaldi's Winter to Mozart's Lacrimosa, Bach's Prelude in C to Beethoven's 7th, Schubert's Lieders, Chopin's Nocturne No. 20 (Milstein transcription), Satie's Gymnopédies to Prokofiev's Dance of Knights - our playlist will highlight oft overlooked, but definitive wonders from our favorite composers.
Sample selection.
Sonata No. 3, BWV 1016, III - Bach
BWV 1056, II - Bach (he uses this melody a few times--a classic.)
Am Mer (from Schwanengesang) - Schubert
Chopin - Nocturnes 13, 19, 20, 2, 15.
